The three basement floors of the tower of the Propsteikirche St. Maria Himmelfahrt from the 12th century represent the oldest preserved parts of a building in Jülich dar. In the 19th century, the nave and later the choir of the late Romanesque church were rebuilt several times. Right in front of the church tower you can see the prewar building of the Schwanen pharmacy.

From the chaos of the rubble field, the ruin of the church stands out strikingly. When looking out of the green road in the direction of the market you look from behind through the ruins of the western marketplace development to the church. Their tower seems to have survived except for the bonnet, the nave with the destroyed roof truss is still standing. But when deflated, the back of the tower has fallen full height into the nave. The right picture from the reconstruction period shows the newly built building on the east side of the market, in which u. a. the Aachener Bank

    is done.
