The colorful garden right in the center of Mönchengladbach is one of the most popular public parks in the city with a size of about 30 hectares. It extends from the Kaiserpark to the main cemetery and also includes the botanical garden on Bettrather Straße.
The history of the park began in 1890 with the establishment of the Kaiserpark, which today is characterized by old trees, some over 100 years old, including, for example, the stately copper beech (Fagus sylvatica 'Atropunicea') or the Hungarian oak (Quercus frainetto).
Among other things, the botanical garden is nationally known for its large number of rhododendrons and azaleas, which unfold their splendor in spring.
Other themed gardens in the Botanical Garden include the Apothecary Garden, the Kitchen Garden, the Ilex Garden and the large conifer section with around 800 different conifers. A stately old coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens), also known as redwood, deserves special mention here.buntergarten.de/home.html
