The Wesertalsperre was built in 1936-1942 and 1946-1949 and put into operation in 1950. The barrier wall, including ground anchoring, is 63 meters high with a damming height of 57 meters. Weserbach, Getzbach and Hillbach feed their water. When the water is full, the surface of the lake is 126 hectares. The reservoir supplies Eupen, the Herver Land, the Liège region and the domain of Sart Tilman with drinking water. It is not pumped, but flows through gravity to Seraing. An average drinking water supply of 71,500 m3 can be guaranteed even in dry years. A small hydroelectric power plant built at the foot of the dam, with an annual output of 3 to 4 million kilowatt hours, supplies the surrounding area with electricity.
