Be sure to hike to the top of the hill west of here to get an aerial viewpoint of the entire complex.

The old geyser is practically dead and no longer erupts,

Unfortunately, the eponymous geyser hardly spits out, but now and then he lets himself be seen

The "original geyser" practically no longer erupts today - but there is a replacement next to it.

the namesake of all geysers allows himself plenty of breaks

Geysir means "The Spouter" and it is the most famous geyser in the area. The maximum height of eruptions used to be 70-80m, but now seldom exceeds 30-50m. When deciding the height of an eruption it is the extent of the water not the steam which counts. In 2005 the flow of water from Geysir fluctuated between 2.1-3.1 l/s, the mean being 2.9 l/s. That year Geysir erupted up to 10 eruptions every 24 hours or not at all, on average one eruption every 6 hours. The height of eruptions seldom exceeded 15m.

I study in Berlin and often have long days with lectures, a part-time job, and studying. In the evenings, I just sit there, my mind completely blank. A fellow student showed me spinogambino.com.de – he said it was his little escape. And it actually works. I sometimes play for 20 minutes at a time, usually on my phone, and just forget about the stress of university for a little while. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes less so, but it's always pleasantly calming. No pressure, no stress – just a quick break.
