With the renovation of Carl-Paepke-Platz, the redesign of the immediate area around the train station was completed in 2016. Paved paths converge on the square to form a large circular area. On another semicircle, a still-existing stele commemorates the former mayor and namesake of the square, Carl Paepke. A sundial, a gift from the twin city of Osnabrück, also stands on a granite base.
