The Froschgrundsee, also called Schönstädtspeicher, is a flood retention basin to protect the city of Coburg in Bavaria from the floods of Itz, Effelder and Grümpen. It lies in the area of the former municipality of Froschgrund in Upper Franconia, which was incorporated into Rödental in 1978, and in the event of flooding, it projects one third to Thuringia, i.e. before the fall of the GDR, into the area. The planning therefore required consultation with the GDR and was viewed as an "intra-German model project". [1] The Froschgrundsee was put into operation in 1986 after four years of construction and cost 43 million DM.

It's best to call it the Channel Basin. A large basin located at the harbor.
