The castle of La Roche-Guyon impresses adventurers passing through Vexin. It dates from the Middle Ages and since its construction, each century has left its mark.
As its name suggests, the castle is backed by chalk. This creates a beautiful dialogue between the building and its environment. Is this how art finds beauty in nature?

Leaning against the chalk cliff since the Middle Ages, this ancient fortress has been transformed over the centuries.
Overlooking the village of La Roche-Guyon, built in a meander of the Seine on the border of Normandy, the castle has belonged to the La Rochefoucauld family since the 12th century. Completely rebuilt, enlarged and embellished in the 18th century, the castle, leaning against the cliff, is connected to the medieval keep which dominates it by an underground passage carved into the rock. Famous for its history, General Rommel had established his quarters there during the Second World War.
