The Wiedweg was awarded in 2010 by the German Hiking Association as quality trail "Wanderbares Deutschland", which emphasizes its special hiking quality. It is divided into eight sections and can be individually hiked.
The Wied is the longest river in the Westerwald. It meanders from the source in Linden at the Westerwald Lake District to the confluence with the Rhine at Neuwied through the low mountain range.
