The bird sanctuary shallow-water and island zone in the Altmühlsee, colloquially called Vogelinsel, is a nature reserve in Gunzenhausen and Muhr am See. The nature reserve includes the northwest area of the Altmühlsee with an archipelago and the mouth of the Altmühlzuleiters into the lake. With an area of about two square kilometers, it is the largest nature reserve in the district of Weissenburg-Gunzenhausen.
