Vogelsberg Southern Railway Cycle Path

The Vorgelsberger Südbahnradweg is characterized by a beautiful route and is completely paved. Just the thing for a nice bike ride.

The cycle path leads from Hartmannshain in Vogelsbergkreis in a southerly direction over Birstein and Brachttal to Wächtersbach in Kinzigtal. Today it is part of the Bahnradweg Hessen, for further details see also there.Its name is the bike path of the Vogelsberger Südbahn, which was shut down between 1958 and 1967. Since the former railway line is no longer usable due to many built-up areas and the vegetation (nature conservation), the paved road runs almost independently through the landscape. In some places gradients (sometimes over 10%) require safe braking, especially from inline skaters.The height difference is large (570 m above sea level in Hartmannshain, to 180 m above sea level in Wächtersbach). In Hartmannshain there is a connection to the Hoherodskopfsteig, as well as to the also on a former railway line running Vulkanradweg. In Wächtersbach can be transferred to the Hessian Radfernweg R3.Along the bike path several rest areas were set up with information boards.
