The Breitach is an approximately 21 km long mountain river and the southwestern and left headwaters of the Iller in the Allgäu Alps, in the federal states of Vorarlberg and Bavaria.

It flows in a northwesterly direction, first through the Kleinwalsertal and then through the Breitachtal of the same name. At the Walserschanze, the Austrian-German border, the Breitach enters German territory and squeezes through the narrow Breitachklamm.
The Breitachklamm has almost a hundred meter high vertical and overhanging walls. The Breitach crashes thunderously over high rocky banks, whirls through deep pools and sprays itself into the finest droplets in which the light plays.
Some of the gloomy gorge walls have never seen the sun. Deep green mosses and dainty ferns love the damp and some intrepid spruce trees have boldly settled on tiny rocky outcrops.
At the source of the Iller on the northern outskirts of Oberstdorf, the Breitach forms the Iller together with the Trettach and the Stillach.
