Bike Touring Highlight
National park train station - doesn't that sound wonderfully like a stop with fresh air, a beautiful view and happy travelers in hiking boots? In fact, the Bad Schandau train station fulfills all the clichés that spontaneously appear in front of the inner eye: embedded in the rocky-green landscape of Saxon Switzerland and located directly on the Elbe, the Tuscan-looking train station building with its green area promises holiday pleasure at first sight. The spacious and subtly green forecourt exudes a pleasant calm, but above all it lets the charming surroundings act as the real star of the ensemble. There is no trace of the hectic rush that is typical of a train station, even among travelers; the clocks actually seem to tick more slowly here in the green. Bad Schandau is the hub of the Upper Elbe Valley, a fifth of the two and a half million visitors to Saxon Switzerland annually get off and transfer here.Hardly any other place in the region has so much customer contact, hardly any train station has been so consistently geared towards the needs of tourist travelers in recent years: barrier-free platforms, new bus stops with adjacent P + R and bicycle parking spaces - everything inviting, squeaky clean and well signposted. "A small kingdom for tourists traveling by train," said the jury of special awards during the on-site test at Bad Schandau train station.allianz-pro-schiene.de/wettbewerbe/bahnhof-des-jahres/bahnhof-bad-schandau
