Road Cycling Highlight
The current five-arched stone bridge was probably built around the middle of the 17th century and built in the years 1805/07 at government expense as it is today. The bridge, built of coarse sandstone blocks, is a gem in the upper Altmühltal.
The lower city gate, which remained well preserved in its construction, shielded as a bastion with its guns, the Altmühlübergänge, especially the Altmühl bridge. Between the bridge and the lower gate ran a ditch that could be crossed with the lower drawbridge. Within the city gate was an iron portcullis, from which the guide troughs in stone are still visible.
