The gatehouse in Altenmuhr is the landmark of the municipality of Muhr am See in the Middle Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen. It was part of Altenmuhr's fortifications with a moat and rampart. The building with the postal address Rosenau 6 is registered as an architectural monument in the Bavarian monument list under the monument number D-5-77-114-22.[1]The gatehouse stands at the transition from Rosenau to Kirchenstrasse on the northeastern edge of the old town of Altenmuhr on the road towards Neuenmuhr at an altitude of 417 m above sea level.[2]The previous building of the gatehouse was built in 1551. The current building was built in 1752.[1] The gatehouse was inhabited by the town's night watchman and oxherder. The building remained inhabited until the 1960s. In 1982 it was raised to allow larger vehicles to pass through. The mansard roof of the half-timbered building is crowned by a small bell towerSource: Wikipedia
