This pond is located in the Erlenbruckmoor nature reserve, which was created in 1942 and is also known as Keßlermoos. According to the Wiki, the main protection purpose is the preservation of the moor area that emerged from the Feldber Glacier, which is a protected area of supraregional importance with its open moor area in the middle, the spiral forest belt at the edge and highly specialized, rare animal species such as the boreal-alpine moorland dragonflies.
