Spreebogen Promenade and Paul-Löbe-Haus

Since the 16th century, around the cities of Berlin and Cölln developed a ring of poor, irregularly built suburbs. The shipbuilding plans of the Great Elector had an influence on urban development. Thus, in 1680 by Dutch experts, including Michael Mathias Smids, in the northern Dorotheenstadt in the area of ​​today's Reichstagufer a shipyard (shipyard yard) was built in the warships also launched from the pile. After two shipbuilders had settled here, the road on the dam in 1738 was named Schiffbauerdamm.
