Ickelheim belongs to the town of Bad Windsheim. There are cozy places to stop for refreshments here and a gatehouse with great half-timbering that is well worth seeing.

Ickelheim was a Franconian royal court in the 8th century, later it was under the influence of the Teutonic Order of Knights (former administrative building, built in 1565).
From 1294 onwards, the Teutonic Order shaped the history of Ickelheim for over 500 years. After Swedish troops burned everything down in 1648, only two gatehouses and the church with a winged altar (1510) remained of the former fortifications.
