Waterholes were of crucial importance in the rural environment: the Hüll or the village pond is an example of this. The hull was usually not fenced, sometimes even in the middle almost two meters deep, which brought great dangers. Therefore, e.g. the Birgländer parents always their children with the saying: "Does not go too close to the envelope, otherwise comes the Hüllma (envelope-man) and pull you in".
