Great view over the plain. Hausweiler can be seen to the south and Vernich to the north. The dam was built in 1982.Edit: As a child I always wondered why the pool had to be so big. Now I've found out why on my own loaf. Crazy pictures when the pool is full.

The flood retention basin near Horchheim an der Erft went into operation in 1983. It holds around 1.4 million cubic meters of water on an area of 70 hectares. The Horchheim flood retention basin has two culvert structures, as the Lommersumer Mühlengraben as well as the Erft have to be led through the dam. The dam of the plant is around 840 meters long and five meters high. Source: erftverband.de/hochwasserrueckhaltebecken-des-erftverbandes-geprueft
