This inland dune can be found in the west of Frankfurt-Schwanheim. The dune has been a nature reserve since 1984 and is a popular recreational area for the people of Frankfurt. Dunes like this with valuable fauna and flora are rare inland and are therefore a special feature. There are two paths through the area, one of which is a boardwalk.

Through the Schwanheimer dune run two paths, in north-south and east-west direction, which intersect in the middle and are designed in the sandy areas since 1999 with planks. A boardwalk directs visitors through the area, allowing them to explore it without harming the sensitive habitat of the animals and plants, which is why it is forbidden to leave the path. While riding on normal routes is allowed, the boardwalk must not be ridden and cyclists should descend for safety. At special points along the paths, there are some explanatory panels containing short information on each section. The dune is surrounded by kiesteichen, orchards and hedges, which are mainly used for bird protection.

A biotope worth seeing with many rare animals and plants!
It is definitely worth leaving your bikes here and exploring the Schwanheimer Düne nature reserve on foot along the approximately 400m long wooden plank path. Info tip: rp-darmstadt.hessen.de/sites/rp-darmstadt.hessen.de/files/Schwanheimer%20D%C3%BCne%20-%20Infotafel.pdf
