Campo Carlo Magno Pass

Alpine pass crossed by a medieval road on a prehistoric route, which connects the Val di Sole with the Val Rendena, between the Brenta Dolomites and the Presanella Group. It is the watershed between the Sarca and Noce basins. The name derives from the undocumented legend that Charlemagne camped here in the year 800 during his descent towards Rome.

The pass lies between the two towns of Campo Carlo Magno, whose name it also bears, and St. Maria im Pein.

The Passo di Campo Carlo Magno owes its name to the fact that tradition tells, without any historical documentary evidence, that Charlemagne would have camped there with his army during his descent towards Rome in the year 800, to be crowned emperor of the Holy Roman Empire
