Roman column, Gert-Jan van Dunnewold, 2017. There is a gravel excavation between the Spijksedijk on the Rhine and the Eltenseweg near Lobith. This will be transformed into a nature reserve and a recreation area. This column winks at the new site, Carvium Novum and at the redoudes (also known as 'Maurist towers' here) that are located in this area. A rotating hollow mirror was later placed on top of the column. Who would have thought of this joke?

There is an ionic column on the Eltenseweg between Lobith and Elten (D). The column is still quite lonely in the landscape, but behind it the Carvium Novum project will be realized.
The 65 ha area along the Eltenseweg will be transformed into the Carvium Novum nature and play park. The purpose of the park is to introduce children to the Roman settlement history. The plan includes a castellum and watchtowers (used as playground equipment) and a restaurant, hotel and houses. Walking and cycling paths will be built in and around the area.
