The first, built under Bishop Notger, was part of the fortifications in the inner ring of the city of Liège. It was destroyed by fire in 1185.
The second suffered the same fate in 1505.
The city owes the splendor and originality of the current building to Prince-Bishop Erard de la Marck.
The first courtyard of the Prince-Bishop's Palace can be visited.
