The St. Marcel cave system has 2 natural entrances and one artificial entrance.
At the end of the 80s, the artificial entrance was created to bring visitors to the expanded cave in a comfortable way. The lower entrance, which is located above the Ardeche River, is closed and only accessible to cave explorers.
The upper entrance (Gouffre Despessy) is open, but you won't get very far without ropes and climbing equipment, and the show cave part is closed from this direction.
