The abbey church of Saint-Philibert de Tournus is a masterpiece of Romanesque art from the 11th and 12th centuries. The church, the cloister, the chapter house, the refectory and the saddler constitute one of the only monastic ensembles of the 11th century. The unique architecture of the nave offers a striking light. Don't miss going down into the crypt and climbing up to the Saint-Michel chapel.

September 9, 2021, Abbey Church of Saint-Philibert of Tournus
The small town of Tournus still has a medieval atmosphere to this day. The Saint-Philibert Abbey Church, consecrated in 1019, is outstanding. It is one of the most important early Romanesque sacred buildings in France and all of Central Europe. Originally it was part of a Benedictine monastery that was founded on the banks of the Saone to house the relics of St. Philibert. The crypt originally dates back to 875.
