Get on your bike and follow a route along the oldest river in the Netherlands: the Meuse.

The Meuse Cycle Route is the Dutch part of the international "Meuse Cycle Route. That route follows the complete route of the Meuse through Europe: from its source in France to Rotterdam. In this Dutch section, you will cycle in eight stages from the southernmost point in Limburg near the Belgian border to the iconic heart of Rotterdam: the Erasmus Bridge. Along the way, you'll experience how the river has shaped the landscape and life around it. You'll cycle through historic fortified towns, past fertile orchards and over dikes with traditional Dutch vistas of grass and grazing cows.

On the first day, the route starts from the train station in Eijsden. Each day you finish at a campsite (and once in a comfortable hotel), so you can fully enjoy the outdoors while recovering from a day on the bike. Of course, you can also choose to cycle the route in fewer days (or if you dare: all at once). You can find the entire route here: komoot.com/nl-nl/tour/2696281352. Should you choose to cycle the routes separately: most places are easy to reach by public transport, but certainly also good by car.
