The Sentier des Abbayes Trappistes (SAT) is one of the most famous themed routes in Wallonia. At 290 kilometres long, the complete route connects the three Walloon abbeys of Chimay, Rochefort and Orval. The Hiking trail crosses the Fagne and the forests of Chimay, the banks of the Meuse then the Famenne and the Ardennes massif.
From Trappist abbey to Trappist abbey, the route offers the possibility of criss-crossing the Walloon paths and discovering the products and heritage of the three Trappist abbeys whose beers are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The route is generally divided into two portions. From Chimay to Rochefort then from Rochefort to Orval. In this Collection I suggest you complete the second portion in six stages. From the abbey of Rochefort to that of Notre-Dame d’Orval, the route has a multitude of historical, culinary and natural surprises in store for you.
Entirely waymarked, the route can be broken down according to your pace and your desires. Although the paths are passable all year round, spring and autumn are probably the two ideal seasons to set off on an adventure.
The Trappist abbeys of Wallonia are revealed along this bucolic route. Experience a timeless adventure discovering an impressive heritage and unique know-how!

For this second leg, make sure you bring enough water and food for the day, as you won't come across any shops. And for good reason, this section runs mainly through forests and magnificent valleys. The valleys of La Resteigne, Redu, and Daverdisse are the ones that define the day.

From Redu to Paliseul, this new stage winds through lush greenery and the banks of the Lesse. Once again, resupply opportunities along the way are rare. It is therefore best to leave Redu with sufficient supplies for the stage.

Similar in length to the previous day's stage, this new section takes you from Paliseul to Cugnon. Still immersed in a lush green setting, you'll discover unusual sites like the Château des Fées. You pass vast agricultural plains towards the banks of the Semois.

This penultimate stage is marked by the presence of water throughout the day. From Cugnon to Florenville, the Semois only leaves you when its meanders become more pronounced. Although flowing along the river, today's route is hillier than the previous days.

The final leg of your Trappist Abbey Trail adventure is also the shortest. From Florenville to Orval, you only need to travel about twelve kilometers to reach the second major abbey on the journey.
