Pack your tent and set off on a joyful outdoor adventure from Altastenberg to Korbach. This multi-day trek is perfect for anyone who loves getting back to basics in nature. Over several stages, you’ll hike on the Sauerland-Höhenflug, taking in panoramic high ground, serene forests and vast landscapes. You’ll sleep at beautiful campsites (called trekking sites) surrounded by natural beauty – they’re quiet, simple and part of the experience.
The hike begins in Altastenberg, high up in the borough of Winterberg. The established trekking sites provide a real sense of adventure at night and should be reserved in advance. They provide glorious views, tranquility and a greater connection to the outdoors. You’ll find them at the Kahlen Asten, the high moors, in the spring areas and the Medebach Bay. Meanwhile, FFH (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive nature conservation) and Natura 2000 (network of protected nature areas across the EU) sites form part of the program every day. The five stages are between 15 and 25 kilometres (9 and 16 mi) and require only some hiking experience and basic fitness.
If you enjoy the luxury of simplicity and the escape a hiking trip can offer, the Sauerland-Höhenflug is for you. With just a little forward planning, a love of nature, a light tent, sleeping pad and sleeping bag, a stove and your trekking sites reserved online in advance, you're ready to go. We’d recommend considering your water supplies before each day, as it’s not always readily available.
