There’s a beautiful simplicity to a weekend spent with just you and your bike. With just one objective, you can enjoy miles of carefree cycling, away from the everyday. A weekend ‘done right’, some would say. It’s quite normal to spend the working weeks daydreaming about such escapes.

Just like Lucy from the Chronicles of Narnia, we often desire to step into a different world. Of course, we don’t have to pass through a magical wardrobe to achieve this. Arriving in Bibbona, on a Friday afternoon in early summer, you’ll feel as though you’ve entered somewhere special too.

This second loop is named after the charming village of Querceto, one of many magical settlements in this area. The day begins with 20 rather flat kilometres (12 mi) through a cool pine forest between Marina di Bibbona and Marina di Cecina. The first of the day’s three climbs begins at Giardino and leads

Dulcis in fundo. To cap off your adventures, this is the longest Tour, a superbly enjoyable gravel ride of over 100 kilometres (60 mi) with almost 2,000 metres (6,500 ft) of elevation gain. After a short but fun passage through a pine forest, the route passes through La California. Paolo Bettini and
