The enchanting 8,500-acre Dalby Forest is located in the south of the North York Moors National Park and, along with Langdale Forest and Cropton Forest, is part of the North Riding Forest Park within the National Park. It abounds in numerous breathtaking views of the wooded slopes, spell-binding views of the moors on a number of well-signposted walking and running trails for visitors of all ages and abilities.

Dalby Forest's fauna and flora is incredibly diverse. You will have opportunities to encounter badgers, roe deer, nightjars, woodpeckers and a host of butterflies. The majority of the trees are the tall and proud Sitka spruces, but you will easily see here beech, pine ash and oak trees. In the spring and summer, you will come upon carpets of orchids, galore of wildflowers and a deluge of daisies and dandelions. There are a number of natural habitats and exquisite nature reserves inside the Forest, including the enchanting Elleburn Nature Reserve.

Dalby Forest is heaven on this Earth for hikers and runners. There are 14 well-marked trails here, ranging from ones under 1km to a 7km one. All paths, tracks and forest roads are well-maintained and easy to use, and the size of the forest will enable you to lose yourself in this quiet and tranquil environment. The magic of trees, the soothing blue surface of Staindale Lake, the glorious views over the moors and well-positioned viewpoints, not to mention the unique sculptures dotting the forest: prepare for an experience extraordinaire!

If you are a jogger, a free 5k parkrun takes place every Saturday, starting at 9am from The Courtyard in Low Dalby. Why not join us?

At Dalby Visitor Centre, you will find a café, have food and drink, and can pick up information about the park and its trails. There are also two observatories here, as this is also a dark skies area, making it paradise for those who wish to gaze at the firmament of stars at night.

Come and enjoy this beautiful, green area for a day out, whether with friends, family or on your own; you will not regret it.
