Hiking allows you to breathe in fresh air and relax your mind and soul, finding happiness in the simple things. Germany’s beautiful southeast, with its castles, palaces, vineyards, colourful meadows, dense forests and cultural treasures is one of the finest places to hike. So, lace up your boots and hit Saxony’s well maintained and varied trails. There truly is something for everyone.
A multi-day trail is a wonderful way to explore a region more intimately. The Malerweg (Artists’ Trail), for example, discovers many of the best-known beauty spots of Saxon Switzerland. Over 116-kilometres (72 mi) you’ll pass the Bastei rock formations, the Königstein Fortress and the spectacular Schrammsteine formations, among many other sights.
The Oberlausitzer Bergweg winds its way along the German-Czech border for 128 kilometres (80 mi) through a landscape with a rich and ancient culture. The route follows the natural undulations of the Upper Lusatian Mountains, providing plenty of challenge and some magnificent views. On the Kammweg Erzgebirge-Vogtland, you’ll follow the German-Czech border once more, this time for 285 kilometres (177 mi). Meanwhile, on the Vogtland Panorama Weg®, you’ll immerse yourself in the 800-year history of this ‘terra advocatorum’ (land of the bailiffs).
In this Collection, we present these superb multi-day hikes and more. Each route has official stages, created by the region’s tourism associations. However, given the excellent infrastructure along the routes, it’s easy to divide the Tours upto suit your requirements. Public transport options along the way are plentiful too.
So, what are you waiting for? There’s over 1000 kilometres (600 mi) of trail waiting to be discovered in this Collection alone!
