Along the 56-kilometre (35-mi) route you will find typical Bavarian villages, cosy beer gardens, shaded rest areas and refreshing outdoor pools. The gentle gradients make it particularly suitable for families and cyclists who want to discover the undulating foothills of the Bavarian Forest at their leisure.
Starting from the banks of the Danube in Niederalteich, you cycle to Hengersberg and from there along the former railway line through the Sonnenwald forest. You then cycle through the picturesque Dreiburgenland and reach the beautiful Ilztal valley near Kalteneck, where the railway cycle path ends. The last section to Röhrnbach is on quiet side roads with wonderful views. If you want to divide the route into two days, Eging am See is an ideal stopover.
Still not spent enough time in the saddle? Then you can connect to the Adalbert Stifter Cycle Path and the Danube-Bavarian Forest Cycle Path in Röhrnbach. The Danube Cycle Path also passes the starting point at Niederalteich. Whether as a link or a two-day tour, the Danube-Ilz Cycle Path is a real treat for young and old.
