You feel the warm rays of the sun on your skin, the birds are chirping, the landscapes are becoming colourful again and the air smells like spring. It's a time of year when the inland region of Germany’s Schleswig-Holstein shows a particularly splendid side. The best way to experience this annual eruption of life is on a hike. No matter if it's a short day trip or a challenging long-distance hike, spring ensures you see its best show.
Whether you’re after family hikes, historical discovery trails, art on the trailside or to just clear your head on a long-distance hiking trail over several days, we’ve selected a colourful mix of hiking trails for spring. Once you’ve decided on your favourite trail, the only question that usually remains is how to get there. With the exception of the Jörler Landscape Trail, you can reach every hiking trail in this Collection by car, bus or train. Most of the Tours are circular, which makes getting there and back doubly easy. You can quickly find the right connection at the SH local transport association: nah.sh/en.
In addition to exciting day trips, such as the round trip to the Viking site of Danewerk or the hike to see the Karl May plays in Bad Segeberg, we’ve selected two of the most beautiful long-distance hiking trails in the north. You can spend ten days on the Nature Park Hiking Trail (komoot.com/collection/1325589) from Brokstedt to Maasholm in the inland. In spring, the four nature parks along this route provide a blossoming spectacle and wonderful insights into the lives of Schleswig-Holstein's wildlife. If you're more interested in a pilgrimage trail, check out the four-day Vicelinweg (komoot.com/collection/1331173).
The charm of a spring inland hike is also complemented by the cosy cafés and restaurants in the region. After all, what could be better than taking a break in the afternoon besides lakes, rivers or the Baltic Sea fjord to enjoy a cup of coffee, a piece of cake and putting your feet up for a while? Nothing, surely.
On a hike along the Neuendeich cultural and historical hiking trail, you can discover the origins and development of the march on your own. The hike takes you over eight kilometers through the Elbmarsch near Uetersen and even brings you to a special orchard where you can try old apple varieties.

Clear your head for a day, hike along winding coastal paths and listen to the gentle lapping of the waves: You don't have to drive all the way to the Baltic Sea for this. The Schlei has created a unique nature park near Eckernförde, through which this 14.6-kilometer hike takes you.
The circular walk starts…
The Danevirke - in German Danewerk - is a centuries-old Viking rampart where the German-Danish border once ran. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built by the Danes in the 5th and 6th centuries. The reason was probably that the tribe wanted to secure its border, as the system is to be…

With its almost nine kilometers and the hardly any slope, the hiking trail around the Buckener Autal is a nice excursion for families. There is a lot to see in nature along the way and the romantic river bed of the Buckener Au and the Fuhlenau are always eye-catchers.
You can reach the Autal via a car…
A historical and scenic pilgrimage route in the middle of Schleswig-Holstein takes you back to the roots of Christianity in Northern Elbe.
