On 18 stages and the more than 186-mile-long route (300 kilometers), the BergZeitReise long-distance hiking trail takes you over several panoramic peaks, through romantic Alpine pastures and pretty little towns. You will pass lush meadows, rustic mountain forests, stately castles, panoramic summit crosses, interesting town centers, and mostly spend the night in cozy huts. The Tour starts in Eisenerz, known for its mining industry.
You don't have 18 days? No problem, pick out a few stages or hike on one of the other great trails in the region. In this Collection, we also show you nine alternatives that are just as worthwhile and also show you the beauty of nature. Go swimming in the Sackwiesensee at an altitude of 4,600 feet (1420 meters). Master the adventurous G'hackte. Or cross the long Frauenmauer cave. Panoramic views are included in every hike, and you can do all of these Tours in one day. Some can be extended to a weekend trip with an overnight stay on the summit. For many hikes, you will find additional tips for great destinations in the region.
Before you go, just bear in mind that it is important you wear sturdy shoes for the Tours. Surefootedness is important on almost all routes. Don't forget to take plenty of sun cream and a sun hat with you. Often, you are on high plateaus and peaks where you will find little shade. A jacket should also be in your backpack on every mountain trip. You will find refreshments on every route. Sometimes it is still worth taking your own provisions with you. Be sure to pack a water bottle, as you will always come across springs with fresh mountain water.
There are plenty of places to spend the night. In the high season, it is worth calling the huts in advance - especially if you prefer a room to a mattress in a dormitory.
