This Collection is a panoramic circular that crosses Trentino, Veneto and Lombardy along the shores of Italy’s largest lake – Lake Garda. I’ve divided the route into three stages that average 50 kilometres (31 mi). If you’re an experienced rider, you can probably complete them all in one day, but don’t miss out on the picturesque villages overlooking the lake, local produce from weekly markets and red wine in Bardolino. You also visit the Scaliger Castle of Sirmione and take a dip (if temperatures allow) in one of the many bays that lie en route. You finish along the famous suspended cycle path on the lake’s western shore. The crystal clear waters of Lake Garda are your panoramic backdrop throughout, giving you sparkling reflections of countless shades of blue, especially during the summer.

I suggest starting in Riva del Garda, a town that’s easy to reach with public transport. A bus takes you to Riva del Garda in 40 minutes from Revereto, a transport hub served by Italian, Austrian and German trains. You can bring your bike on the bus with you for an additional fee.

If you drive to the start point, leave your car in the free parking at the old hospital of Riva (Via Rosmini) or in the Ex Cimitero of Viale della Chiesa. There are also some paid car parks: Giardini di Porta Orientale, Terme Romane, Viale Lutti (Ex Agraria), Monte Oro, Blue Garden.

Lake Garda is very well equipped for tourists. You’ll find information points, restaurants and accommodation along the entire route. I suggest spending one night in Garda and one in Salò. If you prefer, you can divide the Tour into two stages, staying just one night in one of the many hotels along the lake.

If you’re planning this trip in summer, I suggest checking availability in advance as the area gets quite crowded. If you don’t have time to do the whole Tour, you can catch the ferry or take public transport to skip a section. You can take your bike, car or motorbike on board Lake Garda’s ferries at an additional fee.

The route is suitable for all levels of fitness. Bear in mind that you ride on stretches of state road on all three stages, including some tunnels. Drivers are generally courteous to cyclists along the route, but it’s still a good idea to check your safety gear beforehand. Make sure your bike’s rear light is working and that you have reflective clothing. You can ride the Tour on any type of bike, but I suggest choosing wheels that are suitable for both asphalt and other terrains for this Collection.

Enjoy your ride!
