The Saar cycle path starts in Saargemünd, which means French Sarreguemines and lies just south of Saarbrücken behind the French border. To the starting point in the French city, you can easily reach by train, for example from Saarbrücken. On the banks of the Saar, we start the bike tour on the Saar bike path, which brings you on this first leg to Saarlouis. On the French side of the Saar, you cycle north, but you can always throw your gaze on the other side of the river, where lies Germany. The bike path takes you right along the shore, past forest and meadows and one or the other restaurant, if you want to enjoy the French cuisine before crossing the border into Germany. After about ten kilometers you cycle over the border to Germany. You can tell by the big, white letters on the bike path that greet you with a friendly "welcome". On the well-paved, flat path you comfortably drive along the green banks of the Saar to Saarbrücken. Here, the modern waterfront welcomes you and invites you to take a rest. The old town of Saarbrücken with its baroque buildings is worth a visit. As soon as you have left the city behind, you dive back into the green banks of the Saar with shady trees, small wooded areas, tall grass and lush shrubs. On the way to the stage destination Saarlouis you see in Völklingen on the other side of the river Völklinger Hütte, an old ironworks, which today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the stage destination Saarlouis you can end the day comfortably in the old town and in one of the restaurants of the Saarlouiser Kasematten.

The second stage of the Saar cycle path takes you from Saarlouis to Keuchingen. You will cycle through pretty places that invite you to take a break, cycling through idyllic nature and beautiful scenery on the Saar.Like the day before, the cycle path leads you right along the banks of the river. So you can always look over the river and enjoy the proximity to the water. Past romantic forests and wide fields, you follow the arches of the Saar on pleasantly flat paths. About halfway you reach Merzig. Here you can take a break and stop by one of the countless restaurants in the city. If you have a little more time, a visit to the unique Wolf Park, where you can experience the wild animals up close. After Merzig you cycle past wide fields until you finally dive into the beautiful forests on the Saarschleife. On both sides of the Saar rise wooded slopes, which together with the river create a unique landscape idyll. While you follow the narrow loop of the Saar and cycle along the shore, you can enjoy the nature and the picturesque landscape undisturbed.Still quite euphoric of the beauty of the newly driven route, you reach the finish line Keuchingen, which lies in the midst of this beautiful landscape on the Saar. At the end of the day, you can take a walk to one of the lookout points on the surrounding hills or visit the adventure center of Villeroy & Boch on the other side of the river in Mettlach.

Just as idyllic as the previous day has ended, the last stage of the Saar cycle path starts today. Through the magical Saar Valley she leads you from Keuchingen to Konz on the Moselle.Immediately behind Keuchingen you dive into the wild and romantic forest that covers the surrounding slopes. On a hill hides an enchanted chapel among the trees. On a detour here you will be rewarded by the picturesque view of the Saar, which flows at your feet in a large arc. Take a seat on the bench for a moment and let the panorama affect you.You drive down through the forest to the shore of the Saar and follow its merry loops through the deeply cut valley. Wooded slopes rise up next to you. Here and there, rugged rocks peek out from among the trees, catching your gaze again and again. For miles you cycle right through this idyllic nature, until the valley opens a bit. Now, wide fields extend beside you and you come here and there through small places where you can rest nicely. So you drive comfortably on slightly downhill route to the final destination Konz. Here, the Saar flows into the Moselle and exactly at this point ends the Saar cycle path. A nice place to review the varied cycle tour on the Saar again. And if the longing for even more adventures overcomes you, while your gaze wanders over the Mosel, you always have the option of simply cycling along the Mosel cycle path that crosses here. Otherwise there is a train station in Konz for the relaxed journey home.
