As soon as the hustle and bustle of the city gets too much for you, your to-do list starts to dominate your thoughts and you crave some time away from your screens, it's high time for this four-day cycling adventure that kicks off in Antwerp. Whether you live in Antwerp yourself, or travel there by train, the Grote Markt is the perfect base for the first Tour in this Collection. From the Grote Markt you cycle out of the city on the boulevard along the Scheldt. Make the crossing through the cyclist tunnel and suddenly you are cycling in the green of the Burchtse Weel. Continue through Burcht and after Kruibeke continue on the winding cycle path along the water. Here in the Scheldt you can completely relax and enjoy the silence. In Rupelmonde, the skipper of the tourist ferry service will transfer you to Wintum during the months of April to September, during weekends and public holidays (sailing times: vlaamsewaterweg.be/veerddiensten). On other days you drive six kilometers further to Temse and you cycle over the Scheldt bridge to the other side. After a short stretch across the North Island you will cross the river Rupel with the ferry. During the season, this ferry sails on the hour and half an hour every day of the week. Only not at 12.30, because then the skipper has a lunch break.About halfway along the route, in Boom, you will find some cozy cafes where you can enjoy a snack and a drink. This way you are completely ready for the second part of the Tour. After the Scheldt and the Rupel you cycle from Rumst along the winding Nete.A stopover in Lier is also certainly worthwhile, it is one of the most charming towns in Belgium. Treat yourself on one of the many terraces with a delicious Liers vlaaike or a fresh "Liter of Pallieter". If you prefer to sleep in hotels, this is a great end point for today's ride. Campers cycle ten kilometers further to Camping Waterschap in Viersel, where you can set up your tent on the hiking field.

The second stage of the Antwerp Escape Route takes you past historic farms and castles. Since this Tour starts so close to Antwerp, you can also choose to skip the first day and start in Nijlen. You are then only a short distance from the route. You cycle through the fields and trees and enjoy all the nature around you. The birds happily whistle at you and since the paths are flat here, you can pedal firmly. Today's Tour is 89 kilometers, so a solid pace is also in order. The Kempen landscape is an oasis of tranquility. And Westerlo bears the title 'The pearl of the Kempen'. The monuments of the noble de Merode family and the Premonstratensians are also worth a visit. after Westerlo you cycle further along the banks of the Grote Nete, which connects the beautiful nature reserves in the wooded area. Before Eindhout, turn right and cycle through several villages to Leopoldsburg, from where you cycle straight through the Military Domain into the nature center called Bosland. You can spend the night at the cozy Ballasthoeve in Pelt, with a real bicycle café! There are also several B & Bs in the area.

After a wonderful night's sleep, you wake up in your tent to the cheerful morning song of the birds. After an extensive breakfast, you cycle through the varied landscape of the Hobos estate: forests, meadows, orchards, ponds, hedgerows and an old building complex with a vegetable garden and beautiful park elements. On the way to Lommel you cycle past the Ford test center. Will it be tested while you drive there? After Wezel you cycle into the water-rich nature reserve De Maat. Here you will find a mosaic of deciduous forests, swamps, heather, fens and ponds. From the Sas-4 tower you have a fantastic view of the area. It takes some effort to climb the 216 steps, but the view is well worth it on a beautiful clear day.The last part of the route goes through meadows, villages, hay meadows and patches of heather. The route ends at Bivakzone Winkelbroek in a pine forest, a good kilometer from the Mountainsbroek nature reserve - perfect for an evening stroll for those who still have energy. There are also several hotels and B & Bs in the area, so something for everyone!

The last leg of the adventure will take you back to the city. But before that, there is a beautiful cycling tour of 60 kilometers on the program. You cycle through a succession of beautiful nature reserves. Starting with Het Goorken, a green diamond on the Kempen crown, in the valley of the river Wamp. After Tiel and Gierle you land at the Warandeplas, a perfect place for that second breakfast that you need after a few days of cycling. From there you cycle a long way through the Visbeek valley, a typical Kempen brook valley, consisting of swamps, forests, heather, rugged and grasslands. After this you first cycle through two villages before you reach the Zoerselbos. The forest is unique in the Kempen nature reserve thanks to the meadow landscape, where the grasslands are bordered by wooden edges. Ancient oak forests and mature coniferous wood alternate with grasslands and heather. The Boshuisje on the edge of this area is a good place for a lunch break. After lunch you notice that the area is becoming more and more urban, although you certainly still cycle through a lot of green! It is therefore not far to the center anymore. The route ends at the cyclist café Vitesse Coffee & Cycling, where you can tell anyone who wants to hear about the adventures you have experienced over the past four days. And all that within a radius of 75 kilometers.

The Flemish Coast is a real 'beach escape'. The salty wind blows all the stress away from you and in the diverse region full of nature, culture and numerous restaurants and cafes, you can imagine yourself on a beach holiday. Of course you are, and you didn't even have to fly to Spain, CO2 win!You cycle along the 13 Flemish seaside resorts from north to south. Small advice to check the wind direction before departure, depending on that you might be better off cycling from south to north. Either way, the route works in both directions. Maybe you want to ride with a headwind, as a real showdown? Only for powerhouses! Before you reach the coast, you first cycle through the Belgian interior to the Dutch Sluis. You cycle along the old city walls around the fortified city and then set course for the nature reserve Het Zwin. Het Zwin is a protected nature reserve on the border between Flanders and the Netherlands. The ecologically important mudflats and salt marshes area is flooded by the sea every day.It is a beautiful entrance to the Zeeland coast and the first seaside resort you reach is a real hotspot. Knokke-Heist is one of the hippest seaside resorts in the country, and a popular spot for surfers and windsurfers. Lunch in one of the trendy beach clubs before cycling along the coast to Heist-aan-Zee and then Zeebrugge.Zeebrugge is a real world port and the ships you see here are truly gigantic. The lookout at the foot of the Swedish Quay is the perfect place to watch the passing cruise ships and immense container ships sail in. After all that industrial violence, it is high time to dive into nature again. De Fonteintjes is an elongated dune area with dune lakes and moist dune grasslands, where you feel as free as a bird. The next resort is the last for today. There is a wide choice of hotels and campsites in and around Blankenberge.

The smaller picturesque Wenduine aan Zee is just a short bike ride from the larger Blankenberge. Climb the Spioenkop in the dunes for a beautiful view over the beach and the sea. The white pavilion with a red roof in the middle of the dunes is a pearl in itself. From here you cycle through the Zandpanne to De Haan. Here you drive through a very varied landscape of woods, dunes and some damp dune valleys. After De Haan you cycle through some smaller coastal towns, and you take the ferry service to Ostend for free. In this large seaside resort you cycle along the wide artists' promenade right along the beach. Watch out for bathers crossing the road! Just after Ostend lies the special Raversyde, with more than sixty bunkers, observation posts and artillery positions, connected by two kilometers of open or underground corridors. You can take an informative walk (with a purchased ticket). It is one of the best preserved parts of the Atlantic Wall. You then cycle parallel to the coast for a long time through charming seaside resorts and beautiful dune and nature areas. From the IJzermonding you sail on weekends and holidays with the ferry service to Nieuwpoort-Bad. On other days you cycle on the coastal road to Nieuwpoort over the Langebrug. Between Nieuwpoort-Bad and Koksijde, you drive through the fantastically beautiful nature reserves Ter Yde and Doornpanne. Today's finish is in De Panne. A seaside resort surrounded by nature. The wide beach and immense dunes offer hours of walking and cycling pleasure. You would like to stay here for a few days before you cycle back to Bruges. There is no shortage of cozy campsites, so if you have the time, why not!

Today you will leave the Flemish coast behind you, but don't worry: it is a nice bike ride back to Bruges. The coastal polders charm with their endless greenery. First you will visit the historic Veurne, but also the picturesque villages that you will cross afterwards will charm you from the bicycle saddle. The old towns and villages have beautiful churches and pleasant squares where you can enjoy a delicious local beer.Cycle a short distance for a lunch break in Oudenburg. It is one of the oldest inhabited places in Flanders. The Romans built fortifications here from the beginning of the third century against invading "barbarians". The city has many impressive monuments, such as the Abbey Farm and the many imposing churches. You cycle along the canal almost all day and along the way you pass nature reserves such as De Zwaanhoek, Weiden het pompje, Kwetshage and De Meetkerkse Moeren. Nature in the Bruges Woodland is interspersed with authentic farm life, where everything is allowed without rushing. After these wonderful three days on the bike, you have completely mastered that feeling. As a new person you cycle back into Bruges.

Ghent is a historic city but also has a trendy, modern city life. You can combine an adventurous or relaxing day of cycling with a gourmet dinner in one of the many good restaurants in the city. Kortrijk, 50 kilometers to the south, also has a vibrant atmosphere. The Escape Route between these two cities therefore combines the best of a city trip and an active holiday in one.Leave your camping gear at home and pack a set of trendy clothes in your bike packing bags, so that you can put the flowers outside after a wonderful bike ride. Leave on time from Ghent, as you have 80 kilometers to cover and there are also a lot of nice stops along the way.You cycle from the city along the Upper Scheldt through the beautiful nature reserve of the Scheldemeersen. After 38 kilometers you will reach Oudenaarde, the heart of the Flemish Ardennes and of course the city of the Tour. After an extensive lunch break in Oudenaarde you continue your way along the Scheldt until you turn right at Helkijn. The route has been flat until now, but that is about to change. You are spared the heavy climbing work, you collect a total of about 230 vertical meters. You are now cycling through the Hinterland towards Kortrijk. You will cycle via quiet country roads to Zwevegem, it is wonderfully quiet cycling here. After a short climb you can already see the final destination in the distance. You can cycle straight into the center on the Guldensporenpad. Time for a refreshing shower and a nice evening out in cozy Kortrijk.

"Save the best for last", that certainly applies to this Escape Route from Kortrijk to Ghent. After a wonderful evening and night in Kortrijk, you will cycle all the way along the Leie back to Ghent. This river full of meanders and meersen meanders lazily through green fields, swaying rows of trees and picturesque villages. The route takes you past castles, natural beauty and romantic roads lined with deciduous trees. Take a short detour from the route for a photo stop at Kasteel Ooidonk, an impressive water castle in an even more beautiful castle park. You cycle back to Ghent through the beautiful Leie region. Enjoy nature and tranquility, but also the hospitality of the restaurants and cafes in the villages of the Leie region. After 60 kilometers of pure enjoyment, you will reach Ghent again, where you can relax in your cycling outfit on one of the many sunny terraces. Only when the sun has disappeared behind the historic buildings do you want to go home or your hotel room to perhaps freshen up before a pleasant evening out. Resting and scrolling through the photos of the last two beautiful cycling days is of course also just a good idea.
