About Rusty

We have left Riva and Lake Garda and are now on the edge of Monte Baldo in the town of Brentonico.
From here we want to start early tomorrow and climb 3 peaks of the Monte Baldo mountains.
Because we should all be fit tomorrow, we are only doing a compact afternoon lap today. But the topography still allows us a crisp ascent. 😁
It's a pretty town with views on all sides. We get into a festival in the city park. Wood carvers show their art, chestnut stoves are ready, only one of which is heated, and seating sets are set up. It's the Festa del Marrone.
Tonight there will be more activity here.
We walk past old chestnut trees and are amazed at how massive the trunks are.
This walk makes you want more. We want to seize this opportunity tomorrow.

Today the weather is again at its best. 🌞😎Today's tour takes us over the old Ponalstrasse, which leads into the "Val de Ledro".
This adventurous pass road from 1848 was carved into the rock and leads over a narrow natural slope, through natural tunnels, along rock overhangs and always along the deep abyss. 😮
As an 18-year-old, I drove the road in a 12-year-old Opel Kadett with 45 hp. I still know how I sweated, with oncoming traffic and even without it. The rock overhangs were threatening, the abyss even wider, the slope washed out. What an adventure. 😁
The new tunnel section into the "Val de Ledro" has long been available. Cars and trucks race through the tunnel at high speed. The Ponale is now only used for tourist purposes for hikers and cyclists. The greatest danger today is being hit by a mountain biker racing downhill. It's no longer an adventure. 🤔We look for and find our adventure in the form of an old (military) path that has it all. Pure adrenaline, sometimes too much when the steep path, over scree and high rock steps, runs directly along the edge and it goes almost vertically 20 or more meters down. Anyone stumbling can be the last. I can only recommend this route to anyone who feels really free from giddiness and sure-footed. For us it was really borderline and sometimes a border crossing. 😱🤦‍♂️
You don't see it that way in the pictures.
In the hot spots, I also forget to take photos. 😮
The ascent is very steep, which you don't really notice because of all the adrenaline.
We didn't meet anyone this whole part while the Ponale is in continuous operation and you have excellent views over Lake Garda and the surrounding mountains. 🏔🏔🏞🏔🌞The path then ends in the sleepy mountain village of Biacesa. There we took our snack. If you have the time and inclination, you could continue to hike down the valley to Lake Ledro, which you could then also walk around. We cross the valley and walk unspectacularly on paths and partly the Ponale back towards Riva. Unfortunately it gets a bit hazy that you can't see the surrounding mountains so well. The sun stays with us until it goes down. The route includes a good 2 X 2 km from our parking lot.

Today we wanted to go to Lago di Tenno and do a tour there. Visibility zero and drizzle let us continue to Riva on Lake Garda. There it is cloudy but dry.Today was planned for a Sunday anyway. So it was just a stroll through Riva and to Torbole. It was 17 degrees, but quite windy. That was fine with the sailors and surfers. The sun tried the breakthrough several times, which only partially succeeded. For tomorrow sun 🌞 is predicted again. We will hike from Riva over the Tonale into the Ledro Valley.

      134 pictures, I'm sorry, I couldn't throw out any more. 😮😁What a day, we're still totally flashed.
We left shortly after 9 a.m., before the sun crept over the mountain.
At first it was steep, but unspectacular on paths and partly up the ski slope to the mountain station of the cable car. From here there was another chair lift, the mountain station of which was just as easy to reach. A climbing park, sculptures, playground, everything was shaped by tourism. But now, after the end of the season, only the facilities were evidence of it, we hardly saw any people.
From here the alpine path began, which was pointed out several times and also clearly warned. From here we only saw 3 people
The trail had more to offer than we expected given the altitude. In addition to being sure-footed, some places also demanded a portion of "cold-bloodedness" when going down a narrow path carved into the rock, on plank paths staked to the rock and over exposed areas. It is clear to everyone that you must not stumble here. Concentration was required, the adrenaline level was high. 😂 But it was also a lot of fun to be challenged. And of course we were very careful and not daring.
We passed several closed refuges. We were prepared and had enough provisions and drinks with us.Shortly after our start, the sun came over the mountain and became our companion again. But on the mountain side, clouds of fog fought against them and took over. The dazzling light of the sons tried several times to break through, which only succeeded in lower altitudes. 🌞What can I say, it was a lovely day. I can unreservedly recommend this tour for hiking, but I also have to warn you to be careful. Surefootedness and a head for heights are absolutely necessary.Look at the pictures and follow our tour. I've labeled a lot of pictures. That makes it easier to understand than in the form of comments.

Today we left South Tyrol and are now in Trentino. The official language is Italian.
Since we first had to supply and dispose of and also go shopping, the morning was over quickly.
It is warmer than the last few days, but clouds and sun alternate. We are now at Lago de Molveno, it is said to be the most beautiful lake in Italy, but I know at least 4 lakes that also have this title. 🤩😉 It is definitely beautiful. 👌👍Since it was already afternoon, it should be the circumnavigation of the lake, which is advertised on signs and is about 13 km long.
The path is beautiful and relaxed to walk and there are wonderful views of the lake and the Brenta Dolomites towering over it. 🏞🏔🏔
Suddenly we are faced with an insurmountable barrier. Without violence (which we exclude) there is no getting through. At the bottom you would have to swim in the lake and at the top we would have to be able to fly. 😮😒A little contrite we start our way back. In fact, there was no indication of this lockdown. On the way back, we were spoiled by the characterful sky in combination with the sun disappearing behind the mountains. 🏔🌞For tomorrow we have planned a fine mountain tour and promise great views of the lake and the surrounding mountains.

The weather stays as it is, cold at night (around 0 degrees), pure sunshine during the day until sunset, then suddenly cool. Best hiking weather. 🌞😎😋Today we go up to the Gantkovel, in Italian "Macaion". The way there and back is partly the same. Yes, we get more than expected! 🥰 The finest deserted, alpine mountain paths, crisp ascents and descents, mountain lakes, alpine pastures, waterfalls, streams, lush green forest floors and wonderfully colored larches.
And the hammer was then the summit! It goes almost vertically down into the valley, the best view over the Dolo's and Bozen and the Meraner Land. Indescribable and cannot be represented with cell phone pictures. 😊
The only downer was, a missing bench for the snack, in the sun and with a view. There was only one such bank and it was defended by the "owners".
A forest road reveals how the "car hikers" and e-bikers got to the summit. 😁
We preferred to eat on the ground in the sun and with a view, instead of in the shade at a huge group of seats.
A ruin, but nothing ancient "adorned" the area. An attached wood kitchen stove, a packed tent, groceries and other utensils indicate that someone lives here (temporarily?). 🤔
The descent was also exciting, as it wasn't a monotonous descent, but also tough intermediate climbs that challenged you further.
With a cake at the Alm we motivated ourselves for the remaining 4 km. 😉
We liked the tour very much and took second place on this trip for us. The first place remains the self-composed lap over the Meraner Höhenweg. 🥰👌Tomorrow we will change the location again and move further south.

This morning we changed the location again. We are now in San Felice at 1,300m on the border with Trentino. An afternoon tour is enough from there. I had Komoot offer me this again and selected it so that we would be back before the sun disappears behind the mountains. Then it suddenly becomes really fresh. It worked out. The sun remained our companion. 🌞We didn't meet any people during the entire hike. Only two families at the summit cross, at the restaurants and at the pond, were day trippers. In short, where you come with motor vehicles and there are parking spaces. 😉
A family with an SUV also arrived at the summit. The forest roads are closed with a barrier. He found a gap between trees to bypass the barrier. 🤩😎🤣👎
The view on the Schöneck was wonderful. The photos cannot reproduce that. At a distance, only soup arrives with (my) cell phone. 🤔A beautiful, if not so long and spectacular hike, again in beautiful autumn weather. 🌞

At 8 a.m. it is only 2 degrees - too early. At 9.30 a.m. it is 8 degrees and warm sunshine.
      Ideal for the start. 🌞
We have selected a hike from Komoot that fits our desired profile. Not too short and not too long. 2,000 m, there we stay free of snow - fits. We let ourselves be surprised.
We were almost alone on the climb. The alpine pastures were also not yet occupied. The warm jackets stayed in the backpack and some of us walked in the T-shirt. The sun warmed us wonderfully. The light jackets were only used again in longer forest passages. At the destination, the "Stoanerne Mandln" 2.003m, we were surprised where the hikers came from. Many hiking trails lead up from all sides and the place seems to be popular. Rightly! 😊👌👍You have a view on all sides. You can see, among other things, the Dolomites and the Ortler massif. The ground is dry and you can sit or lie on it. Hundreds or even thousands of cairns, some of them imposing in size, are spread out over a wide area and there is also a summit cross. We stay here for a while, enjoying the sun, the view and life. 🥰The descent with a few intermediate climbs is also mostly in the sun. Past several alpine pastures again, mostly on fine mountain hiking trails, we approach the starting altitude. Time for a cake and a wheat beer, we deserve this stop and enjoy both at the Leadner Alm.
The cake was excellent, greedy who we are, we cleaned it and forgot to take pictures. 😉
After the refreshment stop, it went unspectacularly down the valley, past beautiful farms, pastures and always with the mountains in view.
The round suggested by Komoot was well chosen and we really liked it. It wasn't too much for kiwi either. The wonderful autumn weather achieved a masterpiece. Even at an altitude of 2,000 m, it was really warm.
It can go on like this. 🌞😎👌

After our trip to Merano today we drove on to Avelengo. Right, the Haflinger horses are bred here and are omnipresent. 🐴😍A small evening round could get us in the mood for what follows tomorrow or the next few days.
The sunset happened faster than expected and we didn't come home until it was dark. The moment it got dark, it immediately got cold.
We stand here at an altitude of 1,300 m. Temperatures of up to -2 degrees are announced during the night and pure sunshine again tomorrow. 🌞👌

The big market in Merano is on Fridays.
When we're standing right at the train station, it makes sense to take the train inside.
The crowded trains and the crowd in the market still seems a bit unreal. We buy cheese, vegetables and fruit and a large South Tyrolean bacon, which is intended as a present for an upcoming milestone birthday.
Then we leave the market and stroll along the Passer and through the city.
We feel really comfortable above the city, just like yesterday. On the one hand, it's very beautiful. The well-kept houses, the mountains all around, the parks, the promenades and the cafes and yet we don't feel the urge to have a coffee in one of the cafes. 🤔I think we have become real country eggs for the last 5 years. We're going back to Naturno earlier than planned. The walk is around 1 km shorter. I only ended Komoot after the train had already started.
