Simple ride, mostly beautiful, nice quiet roads. Braga is really a nice city! Gêres is of course amazing, I really like this region of Portugal, at least in the summer.

The only reason I'm posting this is for others Komooter's who have questions about taking trains with bikes in Portugal. Today's trip should have been stress-free because we were able to pre-book our tickets, with bikes. However, the space allowed on each carriages for bikes on this particular route

Cycled to Caldas and caught the 9:20 train to Coimbra. This train originates in Caldas and has a large area for bikes. It was supposed to be non-stop but we had to make one change about halfway through, train staff was very helpful with this. Top score for bike friendly transportation.

Being back on home turf, we made good use of the e-bike option today with the goal of having lunch on the ocean. Tribo made us feel welcome and we celebrated with a nice meal.

Merida to Elvas

A very fast ride! After a small climb out of Merida we picked up a good tailwind and cold maintain about 30 kph on the flat sections without much effort. Komoot did an excellent job of routing us through Badajoz and into Elvas. Nice little campground here.

Very easy day, first 10 K is climbing and then it's really an easy coast into Merida.
Arrived in Merida during a festival (accidentally of course),everyone was running around dressed in Roman costumes and consuming copious amounts of alcohol, which made for a fun afternoon.

Nice short ride, Zafra is a pretty town worthy of a visit. Ruta da Plata continued to be quiet and mostly free of traffic, aside from the Camino de Santiago people.

The Ruta de la Plata was quiet and peaceful with enough diversity of terrain and a few picturesque towns to pass through to keep things interesting. This was once a very busy national route, however, now that there's an expressway paralleling it, there is only local traffic. Lots of elevation gain today.

A nice peaceful day of cycling, mostly along the Miño river. Nothing spectacular, but consistently enjoyable.
