After spending the night in Farmville, Va we returned to the car parked in Pamplin at the western end of the High Bridge Trail. As rain was forecast to begin we just pushed to the finish without stopping to beat the weather.

The first day of an overnight trip on the High Bridge Trail in Virginia. Started from the western end of the trail in Pamplin, Va. Rode beyond the High Bridge to Rice where we left the trail to visit Sailor's Creek Battlefield State Park located five miles off the trail. Returned to the trail and rode back to Farmville, Va and spent the night in the Hotel Weyanoke in downtown Farmville.

Today was a very nice summer day to go for a ride. The temperature was not as hot as it has been recently. I rode south from Anderson Point Park on the Neuse River Trail. The sunflowers are in full bloom.

This is one of my favorite 50 mile ride that I do. The route passes by the Averasboro Civil War battlefield. There are three antebellum homes, a museum and a cemetery located on the battlefield.
It passes by Old Bluff Presbyterian Church which was constructed in the 1840's and sits adjacent to the Cape

This was my last ride of 2024 as I have commitments on the 31st. I needed 18 miles for the day to go over 4000 for the year. I rode the Neuse River Trail into Clayton for lunch.
The Clayton end of the trail is closed due to construction at the city park there. It is possible to detour on a dirt road
That must’ve been quite a push to beat the rain, Dan! I’m still trying to build my stamina for rides like that, how do you keep your energy steady when the weather turns tricky? Sorry for asking.
