Dunoon Glenkin Loch Tarsan Glenmassan and Botanics - civilised
I'd completely forgotten how beautiful Glenkin is. Descended on a smaller subsidiary track - narrower/rougher - good fun and recommended.
Saw Waverly thrashing the water into submission.
Route could be done in reverse for fast gravel descent back to Dunoon but watch out for the bends! Ascend Glenkin on western…

Shorter Corlarach Loop from Hunter's Quay Dunoon
Shorter due to foresty work closing some tracks, but actually I fancied the lazy shortcut which turned out to be nice sweeping undulating gravel. That meant some single track and views were missed, but also the humping bikes over fallen trees. Wet feet for the first time on this route…

Gallovidian Gravel eastern third from Mabie Forest - civilised
Varied landscape & views (including Solway Firth and Lake District). Some mature deciduous forest and single track plus a dark spiral staircase climbed partly by feel to the top of a tower for great views.
The tower commemorates the valour of British, Belgian and Prussian troops at the Battle of…

Aberfoyle, Ben Gullipen, Callander for coffee & cake then back to Aberfoyle - civilised
Civilised - my term for no hike-a-bike.
Good tracks, even up to Ben Gullipen (steep). Enjoyed doing a few bits new to me.

Three Ferries Gravel, Rothesay, Loch Striven (west), Glenmassan, Hunter's Quay, Inverkip (73km cycling)
About 73km cycling when Rhubodach to Colintrave and Hunter's Quay to McInroy's Point ferries subtracted.
Road south from Colintraive then track round west shore of Loch Striven are both glorious. Then there's 30 mins tough uphill hike-a-bike 😱😱😱 to join good forest track with great views over Loch Striven.
Round…

Corlarach Forest and Loch Striven (east) Gravel from Dunoon
Argyll - the land where bridges go to die! See photos.
Steep climb out of Dunoon, fast descent to Loch Striven. Lovely countryside by the sea and spectacular views. Found washed away bridge on the loop at northern end, so needed to pass down bikes, cross stream then pass the…

Hi Mark - saw a comment you put on a gravel track along the west side of Loch Eck recently saying it was now clear of landslides? Did you do that whole section between Glenbranter and Benmore botanic garden? Great to know your experience - I'm thinking about it for next week north to south on an ebike

Croy to Stirlling gravel via Tak, Carron Valley, Cairnoch Hill Loop and Earlsburn/Kingsburn Windfarms with a castle thrown in
Croy to Tak-Ma-Doon via gravel and picturesque paths past Banton Loch and Colzium Estate - very nice, much better than with the traffic through Croy, Auchinstarry & Kilsyth.
Should have tried aerial ropeway in playpark on Colzium Estate.

Lennox Forest but not as we know it, includes Loch Ardinning
Really do enjoy following somebody else's route to discover sections and viewpoints in areas I thought I already knew. Some single track and a stream crossing (crossing the wall to get you the stream was the difficult bit, wouldn't be easy solo). Some unfamiliar views of very familiar places.

Arran - Glenashdale Falls & View of Pladda loop from Brodick
Great single track Brodick to Lamlash and southern descent with views over Pladda. Lovely bit of road along south of island before returning to gravel.
Deviation (komoot.com/highlight/5197502) from track on return back maybe ok on MTB but section through cleared forest was ugly, perhaps try https://www.komoot.com/highlight/459513 instead.

Dalry Largs loop via Fairlie Moor, Glentane Hill, Fairlie Glen Trail (avoid!) return via crem and windfarm
Farlie Moor Road from Dalry is good, stick with it and avoid side track that's very muddy after wet (normal?) weather.
Loop over Glentane Hill is wet and crosses Caldron Bog. Rideable quadbike track then 17 mins uphill hike-a-bike followed by wet quadbike/single track mostly rideable but lots of short…

Left Team Ineos in my dust! Forth Loop.
From Polmont, nominally gravel, mostly cyclepath, lots of historical interest, a couple of bridges and a shower long enough to put jackets on but almost short enough to regret putting jackets on.
Oh, and the Team Ineos left behind was the Grangemouth refinery.

Lanark, Cumberhead Wind Farm (Lesmahagow ish), Douglas, Douglas Estate, Falls of Clyde & New Lanark. Civilised.
A gravel ride with a lot of tarmac, but little traffic and nice countryside. Some tracks through wind farm extremely dirty (Feb 2026) due to traffic for installation of more turbines. Café stop at Douglas Deli, route through Douglas Estate is lovely then again quiet tarmac to the Falls of…
