Booked a spontaneous overnight stay in Eisenach to finally hike through the Drachenschlucht gorge. A beautiful experience, and not too many people are out and about at this time of year. Other highlights included the Luisengrotte, the Felsenpfad trail at the Eliashöhle cave, and of course the Wartburg.

Unfortunately, the hiking trails were partly quite neglected and apart from three signs, there was nothing to see on the subject of archaeology. On the other hand, the dahlia gardens in Bad Köstritz were a feast for the eyes.

To conclude my vacation in Altmühltal, I took a hike from Berching to the Steinerne Rinne. Again, it was on beautiful forest paths. The Steinerne Rinne is a fascinating natural spectacle.
