The bus takes you from Salzburg main station to the valley station of the Untersbergbahn in about 30 minutes. Before buying single tickets for the bus and the Untersbergbahn, you should purchase the Salzburg Card (salzburg.info). This is cheaper overall and you get many more admissions. But now back to the tour. The Untersbergbahn takes you up to 1780 meters above sea level in just a few minutes. From there you can set off over the Salzburger Hochthron (1853) towards Berchtesgardener Hochthron. The Berchtesgardener Hochthron is at 1972 meters the highest peak in the massif. The views of the surrounding area are wonderful from both of them. The time forecast in Komoot was not entirely suitable for the route. The rocky, rugged terrain is slower than planned. To the Berchtesgardener Hochthron you should plan about 2.5 - 3 hours.

The hike up the Gaisberg offers beautiful views of Salzburg and the surrounding area. When you have reached the Gaisbergspitze there is an inn where you can linger.
If you don't want to make the descent on foot, you can take bus 151 back to Salzburg. The cost of the ticket is € 3.90 (as of July 2020).
