Today, we're once again taking a New Year's Eve trip through the Aare Gorge above Meiringen.



After moving the car and battling our way through various processions of New Year's Eve bell ringers, we begin our journey near Innerkirchen at -7°C. We catch a few rays of sunshine just before the gorge. But

Before the birthday banquet tonight, I'm going paddling on the Simme with Rva and Christian. The water is quite shallow, and the weather is pleasant throughout the trip, but cool for the time of year.



No incidents during the trip.

Today we head back down into the valley. The trail is actually very well built and maintained. However, for hikers on the flatlands, it requires a bit of nerve here and there. Surefootedness and no fear of heights are recommended.

Today begins with a 600m descent down to the Ticinetto. We cross the bridge and begin the ascent to the Laghetto.



A short drink break here before continuing to the Passo di Piatto. The path leads up with consistently great views of the lake and down into the Leventina, with the Rheinwaldhorn in the background

The tour initially continues along a paved alpine road into the Ticinetto valley. Passing the two cable cars that serve the two villages on the mountain, we reach the actual start of today's tour after about 2 km of easy ascent.

No incidents today, although I messed up again at the second cataract.



We take a break at the Büvetta below Nairs and have a cappuccino or a beer. After that, we continue without incident. Although, I later heard that Carol had an Ekimo.

This morning the weather is absolutely terrible. It's raining and wet, everything is dripping. The water in the Inn is murky in Susch. We change clothes on the wooden bridge in Susch so we don't get soaked right from the start.

A superb ride through the Giarsun Gorge. Nothing untoward today, even though there are ten of us, we're well-coordinated and look out for each other. No one gets in each other's way, and everyone quickly exits the last eddy so the next one still has a chance. A super smooth ride. That's what makes it fun!
