Der Aufstieg Vulkan Rinjani gehört zu den beliebtesten Zielen auf Lombok, zumindest für alle, die ihren Urlaub nicht ausschließlich röstend auf einer Strandliege verbringen wollen. Wem der 3726m hoche Gipfel zu viel ist (und zu der Gruppe zählen wir uns), kann mit nur einer Übernachtung zum Kratersee aufsteigen, was immerhin je nach Ausgangspunkt auch mit rund 2000 Höhenmetern Kraxelei verbunden ist. Anfang August 2025 waren 2 von 3 Routen geschlossen, daher mussten wir zwangsläufig die mittlere Route zum Stampol Peak nehmen. Eine gute Wahl, denn wenn die Wolkendecke im Tal bleibt, habt man von hier sowohl einen richtig hübschen Sonnenuntergang mit Blick auf den Bruder Gunung Agung drüben auf Bali, und kann am Morgen gegen 6 Uhr noch den Sonnenaufgang mit Blick auf das Dorf Sembalun und die Nachbarinsel Subwawa mitnehmen. Ein unvergesslicher Trip, auch wenn Auf- und Abstieg ganz schön schweißtreibend sind. Da sich die Baumgrenze allerdings noch oberhalb von 2600 befindet, ist führt der Pfad durch überwiegend abwechslungsreiche Vegetation - die Mondlandschaft kommt erst weiter oben.

The two waterfalls are quite well-known on Lombok and are only a few kilometers apart. Entrance at Gate 2 costs 20,000 (as of 2025). A guide isn't necessarily needed, as there's only one obvious path—but maybe they'll have a few interesting anecdotes. It tends to rain in the afternoon, so don't leave too late.

A beautiful route for sunset. The average biker can only get up to the viewpoint on foot, but there's not much to see in the dark anyway. Bring a flashlight, and it'll be a lovely night hike before picking up your bike at the bottom of the stairs! At the end of the tour, stop at the outrageously relaxed General Lee's Bar.

Der Hindu Tempel Selogriyo aus dem 9. Jahrhundert ist zwar nicht sonderlich groß, aber die Lage inmitten von Bergen und Reisfeldern ist ein Traum. Spätestens im Ort muss man seinen fahrbaren Untersatz stehen lassen und die gut 2km hoch marschieren, ab hier fahren allenfalls noch die Locals mit dem Moped auf den engen Wegen. Unbedingt auch einen Kaffeestop ca. 400m vor dem Ziel einlegen, hier lässt man sich beim Aufbrühen noch Zeit. Auf jeden Fall eine sehr relaxte Alternative zum Borobudur und Brambanan, wenn man von Yogyakarta aus das Umland erkundet, 50k Eintritt sind auch völlig OK.

Seit über dreißig Jahren fahre ich diese ~40km Ried/Odenwald Route in mehr oder weniger abgewandelter Form, daher habe ich sie "Forever Young Tour" getauft. Manchmal liegen auch ein paar Jahre dazwischen (die letzte Komoot-Aufzeichnung datierte von 2020), aber langweilig wird sie nie. Heute musste ich den Schlenker nach Hemsbach leider weglassen, weil ich Abends noch einen Zug erreichen musste. Dafür war die Abfahrt durch den Wald nach Laudenbach eine willkommene Abwechslung. Nur die nicht mehr vorhandene Bahnbrücke am Erbachwiesenweg (offenbar schon seit 2022) hätte ich nicht gebraucht, der Schlenker über die Umgegungsstraße war etwas nervig. Auch bei km 24km war der Weg versperrt, hier allerdings ohne ersichtlichen Grund. Aber insgesamt Daumen hoch, auch wenn sich die Sonne nicht hat blicken lassen.
