A perfect day for a bit of gravel. It was a bit cold when I left (I decided to go for two pairs of gloves!) but it was actually surprisingly comfortable. I tried to ride as much gravel as possible which worked out quite well and discovered new paths along the way: never realised Hatfield Forest was so nice. Stopped at Mayfield and the Booking Hall for the necessary ☕️ and 🥯 top ups!

After yesterday’s terrible route I decided to re-plan the next stage - with great success! I cycled along quiet back lanes and the hills were gentle again so it was easier to find a rhythm.

Not the best route today 😬. I spent the day deciding whether it was better to ride on the main roads - with sketchy overtaking from cars - or cycle on the pavement which was interrupted by a street/driveway every 100m… There didn’t seem to be any decent cycling roads/lanes around here so will replan my route south next time.

I made my way into the Yorkshire Dales today. Although the climbs are not super high they tend to be pretty steep! Luckily the scenery was superb along the route, with great views from the hills and across the valleys.
Also, I passed through a number of very picturesque

The perfect day on the bike! I left after breakfast and completed the last part of NCR74 and found this part till Gretna was actually quite okay.
Soon after I crossed the border into England via a pleasant stretch of road. Before I knew it I was in Carlisle where I stopped at the river and Hadrian’s

Okay, I cheated slightly and started in Hamilton (but only because we wanted a hotel outside the city centre)!
The start of the route was lovely with quiet country lanes and some short climbs. The main part of the route was along NCR74 which is a fast route south but is quite varied in quality along the
