18.4 km

A1000 Country Road Stretch

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Speedy as you get on it from either end as it’s essentially a dip - you drop first and climb later! Good in/out point off the A1000 to start enjoying country roads if leaving London that way.

25.6 km

Quiet Tree-Lined Road off Great North Road

Highlight (Segment) • Natural

Quiet and wide road for riding in a group. Ok tarmac, some pot holes so watch out. Excellent to really get in the zone as there are no traffic lights …

30.5 km

Essendon Hill

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Fast 40mph/65kph downhill when travelling northbound. Nice sweeping wide left turn, but careful of the right angle turn at the end. Can be easy to misjudge and go in too fast! Quiet road generally

43.4 km

Dolly's of Datchworth

Highlight • Cafe

Highlight! I recommend this cafe for a stop to replenish food and drink levels. Section out the back where you can sit in the Winter and keep bikes secure.

43.9 km

Descent on the Datchworth–Watton Road

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

A lovely stretch of road, one of my favourites, don't forget to take in the scenery as you go by.

64.9 km

Nice village shop that also sells pastries and snacks, few seats inside, nice place for a break!

68.1 km

Vineyards Lane and Carbone Hill Climbs

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Two steep-ish decents and climbs back-to-back. North is a bit easier than south. Lots of cyclists on both, and despite being small roads often cars.
