Coniston Water Lakeside Path

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Coniston Water is steeped with water speed record history, yet you would never have guessed it walking along this tranquil waters edge. In the lower section of the lake, Peel Island can be found which has featured in a children's novel and is a mystical little island to visit.

Tarn Hows

Highlight • Lake

It's great around here, especially in autumn when it's a little quieter and the colours really pop. Super interesting fact: Beatrix Potter actually used to own the Tarns, having bought them in 1929 before selling half to the National Trust. Over on golakes.co.uk/travel there's loads of useful information about getting around here.

Withesike Bay

Highlight • Forest

Withesike Bay is one of many along the Derwentwater shoreline. You can get a brilliant sunrise here. The bay can get busy during peak season but there are others nearby to choose from.

Skiddaw House Hostel

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Skiddaw House youth hostel is often referred to as the most remote house in England, as it is a 3-mile (5 km) walk from the nearest road. Situated at 1,542 feet (470 m) and nestled between Skiddaw, Blencathra and Great Calva, it is a glorious location and an ideal basecamp for adventures in the Northern Fells.

High Pike Summit

Highlight • Natural Monument

High Pike is the most northerly of the Lakeland fells over 2,000 feet (610 m). The summit is known for its majestic light and changing moods. It affords an excellent view north over the Solway Firth and the Scottish Border hills.
