On this approximately ten kilometer circular route you will get to know the special features of the Ballycroy National Park. Sturdy shoes and good surefootedness are a must. The start and finish point is the picnic area at Brogan Carroll Bothy. From here you hike counterclockwise on the Letterkeen Loop. The first few kilometers you almost follow the course of the Green Bridge River. You will be led through small sections of coniferous forests. From time to time you have the opportunity to look at the river, which at times can hardly carry any water. After about three kilometers there is an ascent on a stony path, but the effort is definitely worth it, because as soon as you have reached the highest point, there is a fantastic view over the moorland of the national park. Now the descent follows for you again, which, however, has a lower gradient than the ascent. Just before Lough Avoher Hut it can be quite steep. But if this is also done, you can continue without any significant inclines or declines.A boggy section of the tour begins here, so the path has also been paved with simple wooden planks. Soon the planks change back to a natural stone path and you arrive at the Maumaratta River. On one section you have to go over a striking triangular metal bridge. On the last few kilometers you can get another picture of the Ballycroy moorland before you have your picnic as a reward at the starting point.
