In this loop you follow the course of the Rhine. You take the bicycle ferry and cycle over the Rhine Bridge back to Emmerich aan de Rijn. Emmerich is just across the border and you can easily reach the town by train. While you are cycling along the pleasant Rhine promenade, you should do your best not to settle down directly on one of the terraces. The culinary promenade is tempting, but is still there this afternoon. From the Rijnpark you can see the containers in the port. It is clear that Emmerich is a trading town. The port, which was first used in the 17th century, now covers approximately 45,000 m² with two berths and two container cranes. You then cycle over the dike to Dornick through the Dornicksche Waard, a beautiful green area where you will even find dunes. Here you also drive past the airport for the gliders, with good weather you can wave to the pilots. You continue cycling along the dike past the villages of Praest and Bienen. After Bienen, you cross the Bieener Althrein and cycle through the wonderfully peaceful, vast landscape. At Grietherort you cross the Rhine with the ferry. Please note, the ferry does not run every day so before you cycle this route, first check this website with the current sailing times: niederrheinfaehre.de/f%C3%A4hrzeiten Omcycling via Rees and there with the bridge reaching the other side is of course also possible, but it is quite a turn.Grieth is the perfect place to take a break, especially Griether Hanselädchen's cafe is very nice. If you want to spoil yourself extra, you can spend the night as a noble at Grieth's castle. Then it's time to return to Emmerich. On the long road along the Rhine you can dream away while watching the ships pass by in the water from a distance. You can see the bridge that you will cross to reach the city from afar. This gigantic German version of the Golden Gate Bridge is even more spectacular at night when it is lit all red. From the culinary Rijnboulevard you have a magnificent view. So on to the terrace!
